Shopify Traffic but No Sales? What to Check

People visit your Shopify store but do not buy. Find what gets in their way and choose sensible changes to test.

More visitors will not solve a checkout fault, unclear delivery costs or a product page that leaves buyers with questions. A conversion rate is simply the share of visitors who buy. Improving it starts with finding where shoppers leave and why. The right change might be a clearer product description, better delivery information or a repaired checkout.

Things to check first

  1. Try buying on your own phone. Note any confusing steps, broken buttons or surprise charges.
  2. Check which pages people visit and where they leave. Make sure the tracking works before trusting the numbers.
  3. Read recent customer questions and returns. Repeated questions can show what the product page fails to explain.

Try a full order on your phone. Check that product details, costs and payment choices are clear before asking shoppers to pay. This is an example checkout, not a result from a sales test.

What to ask the freelancer to do

  • Review where shoppers leave
  • Find unclear or broken parts of the store
  • Suggest changes in order of value
  • Agree tests and measures
  • Explain the results

Questions to ask before hiring

  • What evidence will you use?
  • Which pages and steps will you check?
  • How will we tell whether a change helped?

Red flags

  • Starts a redesign without finding the problem
  • Guarantees a set sales rate

Agree what the job includes

  1. Choose a problem to investigate, such as people leaving the cart. Avoid paying for a whole redesign without a reason.
  2. Ask what each proposed change is meant to improve and what evidence supports it.
  3. Agree how success will be judged. Check sales, refunds and customer experience, not just clicks on a new button.

What to send the freelancer

  • Share the store pages, main products and usual customer questions.
  • Provide store reports through suitable account access. Keep customer exports out of the brief.
  • Agree a budget, the pages included and who will approve design changes.

How to check the work is done

  • You receive a clear list of issues, proposed fixes and reasons for them.
  • Any agreed changes work on phones and computers and keep checkout working.
  • The report explains the results and any limits, including when there is too little data to draw a firm conclusion.

What may cost extra

  • No one can promise a fixed sales increase.
  • Advertising, product photography and a full redesign cost extra unless included.

Common questions

Does traffic with no sales mean I need a new store design?

Not necessarily. First check whether the right people visit, what the product pages explain and whether checkout works. Ask for a reason behind each proposed change.

Can a small Shopify store run a useful sales test?

It may not have enough orders to compare two versions reliably. Start with clear faults and customer questions. Ask the specialist to explain when the numbers are too small for a firm conclusion.
