Shopify Store Loading Slowly? Speed Checks & Help
Make your Shopify store faster without breaking the features customers need. See what to test before and after the changes.
A fast store should be easier to use, not just score better on a test. Large pictures, apps and theme code can all slow it down. Start with pages shoppers actually use. A higher score is not much help if product options stop working or the cart breaks.
Things to check first
- Open the slow pages on your phone and note where the wait happens.
- Check whether the slowdown started after adding an app, changing the theme or uploading large pictures.
- Save a speed report for the homepage, a product page and a collection page. Use the same pages for later checks.

Test the pages people actually use to shop, including product pages and the cart. A better speed score should also mean a store that is easier to use.

- Measure the slow pages
- Find the main causes
- Make the agreed speed fixes
- Retest the store’s key pages
- Explain any remaining limits
Questions to ask before hiring
- Which pages will you compare?
- How will you keep store features working?
- Will you show before and after results?
Red flags
- Promises a perfect score before seeing the store
- Removes apps without asking
Agree what the job includes
- Agree which pages and devices will be tested. Keep the before and after tests as similar as possible.
- Ask what is slowing the store most and which fixes are included. A list of new apps is not a clear plan.
- Work on a copy of the theme where possible. Approve any app removal or visible design change before it goes live.
What to send the freelancer
- Share the slow page links, theme name and apps you use.
- List features that must stay, such as product options, search and reviews.
- Agree the page count, test method and how long the freelancer will fix problems after delivery.
How to check the work is done
- The same pages have before and after results, with any remaining problems explained.
- Product options, menus, search, cart and checkout still work.
- You get a list of changes and a way to restore the previous theme.
What may cost extra
- A perfect test score or full theme rebuild is not included unless agreed.
- Removing features or tracking to raise a score needs your approval.

Common questions
Should I install another app to speed up Shopify?
Find the cause first. Large pictures, theme code and existing apps may need attention. Adding an app without checking the problem can add cost without improving the pages people use.
Is a perfect speed score the right goal?
The store should be quicker and still work properly. Compare the same pages in similar tests and check product options, search and checkout. One high score does not prove every shopper has a better experience.
