Klaviyo Abandoned Cart Emails Not Sending? Shopify Checks
Are your abandoned-cart emails failing to send, or sending without bringing people back? Find out whether you need a technical fix or better emails.
A shopper leaves checkout, but no reminder arrives. First check whether Klaviyo saw the checkout, whether the shopper entered the email series and whether the email was sent. Klaviyo calls an email series a flow. If the email does arrive but few people buy, you may need better timing or content rather than a connection repair.
Things to check first
- Check what starts the flow. If you recently moved stores, it may still be waiting for an update from the old store.
- Look at a test customer’s activity and flow history. Find where they stopped: before joining, while waiting or before the email was sent.
- Try the official test for checkout tracking. A warning about no recent checkouts does not by itself prove the connection is broken.

Cart reminders depend on what happens during shopping and checkout. Use a test shopper to check that the expected checkout action reaches Klaviyo. This is Shopify’s checkout example.

- Check why customers enter or miss the series
- Check the Shopify checkout updates
- Review email timing and who receives them
- Improve the emails if agreed
- Agree how to judge the result
Questions to ask before hiring
- Is this a sending problem or a weak email offer?
- How will we check whether sales improved?
- Will you check how the emails look on phones?
Red flags
- Rewrites emails without checking whether they send
- Guarantees a fixed increase in sales
Agree what the job includes
- Follow one test checkout through to the email. Agree whether you are buying a repair, an email rewrite or both.
- Check who should receive reminders and who should be skipped. Someone who has bought should not keep receiving the same checkout reminder.
- Test an eligible shopper and a shopper who should be skipped. Check any other cart reminders to avoid sending too many emails.
What to send the freelancer
- Share the flow name, starting rule and where the test customer gets stuck. Hide personal details.
- List other cart reminder tools and agree who can change live emails.
- Save the current results so you have something to compare after the work.
How to check the work is done
- An eligible test shopper enters the right flow and reaches the expected email step.
- Test shoppers who should be skipped are skipped. Other reminder tools do not send unwanted extra messages.
- You get notes on the rules, timing and emails changed, plus how to undo the changes.
What may cost extra
- A working email series cannot guarantee a set number of sales.
- Fixing the whole account’s spam problems or adding SMS needs a separate quote.

Common questions
Are added-to-cart and started-checkout reminders the same flow?
They start from different shopper actions. Check which action your email series uses and whether that action reaches Klaviyo. Do not change the trigger without checking who should receive the reminders.
What if cart emails send but do not bring many people back?
That is different from a sending fault. Review the offer, timing, message and buying steps. Agree what will be changed and compare results without accepting a guaranteed sales increase.
